A Bargain at Any Price

BD has not been much of a hugger since she was a little girl.  Most of the hugs I get from her are a) requested and b) one-armed.

She is getting ready to go on a long field trip for school and wanted to download some songs for her iPod last night so she could listen to them on the bus.  She had a whopping $4.

Now, I don’t think that finishing middle school is a Really Big Deal that calls for parties, cards and extravagant gifts.  Besides, the school has already bit into what we might have budgeted for that with numerous expensive field trips at the end of the year.  Not to mention the fee for dissecting a frog.  But I dissect, I mean digress.

I had picked up an iTunes card as a little token of our relief pride in the fact that she’s passed another educational milestone.  I surprised her with it last night.

And got a genuine, heartfelt, unrequested bear hug.

I’m still smiling.
