We’re going down south of the (Kentucky/Tennessee) border to see HS this weekend to celebrate his birthday a few days early. We talked on the phone last weekend, making such exciting plans as going to see WALL-E with him and his girlfriend while we’re in town. He also mentioned that he has some news to tell us when we come down.
I am by nature a curious person. For some reason (his tone of voice?), I didn’t push him to tell me on the phone. Of course, I have been mulling it over in my mind ever since and have come up with any number of possibilities. Ten, in fact.
10. He’s quitting school to start a band and go on tour.
9. He’s won a writing prize.
8. Something he wrote is being published (but there is no prize money involved).
7. He’s moving back home.
6. He’s been offered a full-time job as a Flying Squirrel.*
5. He’s been offered a real job after he gets his master’s next spring.
4. He’s vacuumed his apartment more than once this summer.
3. He wrecked his car.
2. He’s getting married.
1. He already got married.
*he’s working at a summer camp this summer, and that is the name of his group.

Last time I got ‘that tone’ it was to tell me he was quitting school for a semester (which turned into a year) but he had a good reason, so we didn’t flip out.
