Mourning and Rejoicing

One of my very favorite people died today.

He was 92 years young.  He worked full-time (as a mechanical engineer, no less) till a few months ago when ill health forced him to part-time.  I’m sure there were some work files by his bed at the very end.

He taught Sunday School until last month.   When he couldn’t make it to church the last few weeks, they arranged an online audio stream so he could listen to the service at home.

He was a Gideon, so next time you pick see a Bible in a hotel room, thank him!

He was from West Viriginia, and never failed to place his hand over his heart when reverently mentioning “God’s own country.”

His wife died in 1990, just before we moved here.  I’ve always been sorry that we never knew her.  He said he’d been “flying on one wing” ever since her death.

He was brilliant, kind, personable, and one of the humblest people I’ve ever known.

He will be missed greatly here, but I know there is one tremendous celebration going on in heaven right now as they welcome one of their own home.  And he’s finally got his second wing back.

    I’m so sorry. :(

He sounds like a delightful soul. I know the angels welcomed him with welcome arms.
