My condolences to you for their end-of-season collapse. When we lived in New Jersey, I was a Met fan. I still have the tiny 1986 Mets World Championship T-shirt I bought for HS when he was a year old.
Since moving here, however, my baseball loyalties have shifted back somewhat to the team I first loved–the Cincinnati Reds. I started watching them in the days of The Big Red Machine, when I had a huge crush on Johnny Bench. 2007, however, was not to be the Reds’ year.
So I’ve jumped on Mr. B’s bandwagon. My Pennsylvania-bred husband is a lifelong Phillies fan. Yesterday was a lovely day here, so we hauled my laptop out to the patio, logged in to our MLB Gameday Audio account, and listened to the Phillies beat the Nationals and clinch the NL East. He feels it almost makes up for their 1964 collapse when they had a 6 1/2 game lead on September 20 and proceeded to lose 10 straight games. They finished second in their division, long before the playoffs included a wild card spot.
I’ll also, of course, be rooting for the Cubs, another of my favorite teams (go ahead, call me fickle). If the Phillies and Cubs both win the first round, Mr. B and I may have to watch the National League Championship Series on separate televisions if we hope to reach our 26th wedding anniversary.

As you know, I’m not a big baseball fan, but being originally from IL, I was glad to hear the Cubs fared so well! I also went to the Rockies game yesterday, that was really a good time, especially since they won!
Aw, thanks, appreciate the sentiment. Not sure who I’m rooting for. I do generally root for the Yankees when the Mets aren’t in the playoffs (because the Yankees typically are) but I’ve got a bunch of friends/family in Boston, and of course there are the underdog Cubbies…
Maybe it’s just too early to think about it
