I was waiting to check out at a store the other day. The woman in front of me was talking on her cell phone. From her side of the conversation, it was obvious that it was just a friendly chat. Certainly nothing that couldn’t have waited till she was finished with her transaction. But instead, she continued talking, completely ignoring the cashier, even when he managed to summon up a smile and thank her for her business.
When it was my turn to check out I made it a point to have a conversation with the cashier.
And I suppose that criticizing the previous customer’s rudeness behind her back made me almost as rude as she was.

Oh man, cell phones drive me nuts! I can’t imagine doing that. I’d have done the same as you with the cashier…
Now, see, I love a cell/mobile phone but that kind of behaviour makes me think we need to license users!
I hope I’d pass the test!
That is the epitome of rudeness – and exactly the reason why many stores (and even my local post office) have signs asking you to finish your phone conversation or step out of line.
Preach it!!!
