HS ran in his first marathon recently. He says it is also most likely his last. Afterward, he was almost as stiff and sore as his father and I are when we wake up every morning.
His goal was to run it in three and a half hours. For those of you who don’t follow running, that means he had to run 26.2 eight-minute miles. Personally, I’d be hard pressed to run a single eight-minute half-mile. He made his goal with over five minutes to spare.
Perhaps he foresaw that when he looked so carefree at the 8-mile mark of the race.

Apparently he was feeling the stress by the last two miles, when he says he just kept spitting out the Lord’s Prayer. Literally spitting. I’m sure the Lord didn’t mind.

Oh well done, HS!
I admire anybody who can run a marathon in whatever time. I always think it would be cool to run a marathon but by the time I’ve finished that thought I’m exhausted so never actually get round to it.
As someone who once considered walking a half-marathon then promptly realized it was IMPOSSIBLE, I’m mighty impressed! Well done, HS!
Running a marathon – heck, moving really fast in one direction – is quite a feat, in my eyes! Congrats and perhaps I should take a lesson and spit the Lord’s prayer, now and again!
WHOA! GO HS! That’s very cool. Now I must get back to sitting.
Congrats to HS!! I’ve never been able to run — between feet problems and not knowing how to breathe to avoid cramping, running & I just don’t go together. I’m envious of people who can run at all!!
Completely unrelated… but I hear the Queen is coming to town for the derby! WOW!!
I have a blogging friend who does that 3 and 4 times a year. More power to ya! I walk. But I walk lots of miles.
Did you know that 5.5 miles a day for a month is 165 miles. That’s what my pedometer says, anyway. Whew! that enuff to make you want to go sit down and have a pile of chocolate.
Congrats!! Nice going. If you think 26.2 miles is bad, there is a guy at my gym- Darren Worts–36 years old who ran an ultra, ultra marathon: Yep, 100 miles. He did it in 18 hours, 36 minutes. My questions: How do you feel full and how/when can you go to the bathroom?
