Top 10 Signs You Know It’s Kentucky Derby Week

10.  All the local morning shows are broadcasting live from Churchill Downs all week.

9.  The liquor stores have signs up saying they will be opening at 6 AM on Friday and Saturday.

8.  Horses have replaced gubenatorial candidates on the front page of the newspaper.

7.  All of the highway medians have been mown recently.

6.  People are racing around in hot air balloons and beds or carrying trays of wine for Kentucky Derby Festival events.

5.  Schools will be closed this Friday.

4.  The airport has live bands playing.

3.  The list of celebrities arriving for Derby is updated daily in the newspaper (even though Larry Birkhead is coming, Queen Elizabeth is still drawing the most attention).

2.  TV meteorologists pretty much skip over the rest of the week and spend most of their time on Saturday’s forecast.

1.  Mr. B and I are still trying to figure out what we’re doing for Derby.

    I’m convinced that the rest of the nation has a whole lot more fun than we do. We’re too jaded and overwhelmed by NYC around here, I think! Have fun!

    The hubs and I just watched Paula Dean’s boys visit the bakery supposedly that created the Kentucky Derby cake – sounds like a yummy time!
