Train of Thought

Mr. B has always been amazed by the way my brain seems to leap around to seemingly disconnected topics.  When we were first married (and much younger), I could usually track back the thought process that could take me from A to L, leading him through B, C, D, etc.  As my short term memory has faded with middle age, I can’t always do that, but I stand firm in my belief that my thoughts still DO connect to each other.

Today I was cleaning up after planting two flats of pansies and found myself humming Dr. Hook’s old classic, “On the Cover of the Rolling Stone.”

“Where did THAT come from?” I asked myself.  Then I thought it through.

While watering the flowers, I’d taken off my gardening gloves.  When I got some potting soil on my hands, I wiped it on my T-shirt, which sported the logo seen here, listing a few of the many pronunciations for “Louisville.”  That led me to thinking of a conversation I’d had with a store clerk earlier in the day when she’d admired the shirt.  I asked her if she’d seen the movie “Elizabethtown,” which includes a scene where Kirsten Dunst tries to teach Orlando Bloom how to pronounce “Louisville.”  The clerk mentioned that much of the movie had been shot around here.  I knew that, having briefly considered stalking Orlando Bloom at the time.

While remembering that conversation, I thought about how Cameron Crowe, who wrote and directed the movie, had some Kentucky connections that inspired him.  Kind of like his early life inspired him to make “Almost Famous.”  His early life back when he was writing for “Rolling Stone.”

Cue music.

I’m impressed that you were able to trace your train of thought like that! My train usually derails when I try to trace…

Wow, all that to figure out why you were humming a certain tune. I’d just figure I’d heard it somewhere….
