As promised, I rented some videos for poor, sick BD yesterday.
Being the cheap person that I am, I went to the library, where video rentals are free. And, not wanting to get into yet another debate about what is appropriate for a 12 year old to watch, I did not seek BD’s input.
In a prescient moment earlier in the week, she had mentioned that next time she got sick, she wanted to watch “Pooh’s Grand Adventure.” It struck me as an odd choice (and it’s certainly not one of my favorite Pooh flicks), but the library had it. One down.
I saw a Hilary Duff movie that I wasn’t sure she’d seen. While BD would probably object as being “too cool” for it if she’d been there, I decided to take a chance. Two down.
Then I saw it. I knew she’d seen this movie. I remember renting it for HS when he was about her age. This meant that BD was perhaps two years old. She didn’t watch the entire movie, and certainly didn’t follow the plot. Nevertheless, she loved it. She stood mesmerized in front of the TV, laughing, pointing, and shouting, “Monkey boom! Monkey boom!” Ever since then, this film has been known to the Bluegrass Family as “Monkey Boom.”
Three down, and every choice a success when I got home.

Wow — 3 for 3! You’re good! Isn’t Jumangi kind of scary? I don’t know if I’ve watched the whole thing.
We “rent” at the library too… and get 2/month from Netflix online.
Anything with Chad Michael Murray has to be good with a pre-teen/teen girl. Hubba hubba.
*snort*
We’re not big on watching movies, even though I wish we were. We just stopped in at a Blockbusters tonight and I signed up for a two week trial of their membership where they mail the movies out to me and then I can return them by mail or in the store. We’ll see how long it actually takes us to finally watch the movie once it arrives!
