BD had an orthodontist appointment at 11 and a doctor’s appointment at 4:15. We spent the time in between grabbing lunch at Taco Bell and doing some back-to-school clothes shopping.
Clothes have to meet four criteria:
She likes it.
I approve of it.
It fits.
It meets the school dress code.
Sounds simple, no?
No. Most definitely no.
It’s no wonder I’m exhausted.
P.S. That list [...]
And I think there must be a giant “S” emblazoned on my forehead. At least one that’s visible to the Census Bureau.
Back in 2000, we were one of the “lucky” one-in-six families chosen to complete the long form of the U.S. Census. The thing took hours to complete (at least it seemed like it) and [...]
Last night we picked about 7 or 8 fresh tomatoes off our vines.
Jealous?
UPDATE: BD had the digital camera at camp when I posted that, but now I’ve got a picture of one of the nicest of the tomatoes. It will be gone soon, so even I have will have to come look at this post so [...]
Earlier this summer, you may remember that I had to mail HS’s penguin, Jamal, to him.
Last week, HS and his crew stopped by for a couple of days on the way to their last camp of the season. Imagine my surprise when I learned that Jamal had gotten married! Sad to say, I was unable to [...]
The title assumes that a period of 19 months can be called an “era.”
BD has decided to leave her USA swim team in favor of the middle school field hockey team. (I was somewhat shocked to find out how many of the kids on the swim team actually find time to play a second sport, but we didn’t consider [...]
It turns out that our air conditioning wasn’t working because of the switch we let the power company put on the compressor to help reduce electrical demand at peak periods. I paid an HVAC tech $140 to find out that it had stopped the compressor from working at all (and to disconnect the little devil).
Wish me [...]
Because our air conditioner does not seem to be working. The compressor and air handler are both running, but the temperature has gone up to 78 degrees. That doesn’t sound hot, but it sure feels it. The heat index tomorrow is supposed to be over 100 degrees.
We had a similar problem last year. At least [...]
Last year I wrote about a book that a friend of mine had just published. I even recommended that people buy it.
The book is now out in paperback. Apparently a lot more people than I’d realized actually read my blog and take my advice. Because The Memory Keeper’s Daughter is currently #5 on the New York [...]
Because even if it’s nearly dinnertime, if I decide that I’d like a dish of ice cream, I can have it.
Assuming, of course, that no children are in the vicinity to learn such bad habits.
BD’s back from her mission trip. While we enjoyed some quality adult time, it’s nice to have her back.
I’ll give you three guesses as to what her assigned job was this week, and the first two don’t count.
