Even if it’s at her own school’s Fall Festival.
Because if you don’t watch her like a hawk, she may play the fishing game and win a “free” goldfish.
$60 later we have a small aquarium, other necessary supplies, and a friend for the fish.
We went through this with HS many years ago. I thought I’d learned my lesson.
I guess the only lesson I learned is to get a filtered aquarium instead of a plain fish bowl. They’ve made it through the first day, which may be more than HS’s fish did.

P.S. The one on the left is Fred and the one on the right is George.

Well, aren’t you the lucky one…new fish! So what are you going to do with the aquarium if the fish die? Get new ones? And what does Millie think of this?? hehe
GAH! This is why we stay far, far away from the goldfish games at all costs. Smart move on the tank tho. They may make it a couple of weeks before the inevitable happens. Or maybe that’s just with my kids…
I fed my niece’s goldfish while her family was on vacation. It passed away on my watch, so to speak. When the family returned from the trip, my niece was amazed by how much her fish had grown. I didn’t tell her until years later that we had taken such good care of it that it had to become a completely new fish.
Fred and George!! Very appropriate!
Omigosh, the very same thing happened to me when I was in elementary school. My dad ended up with a very cool aquarium containing Sonny (my goldfish) and Cher (the betta we bought to keep him company). He eventually graduated to a 30 gallon tank. (That was NOT my fault!)
This made me smile
Good luck with Fred and George.
