We used to let our kid dye his hair. The way we saw it, hair grows out and can be re-dyed, and it was a battle worth letting him win; he felt a little rebellious and kinda cool in his friends eyes, and we were able to say ok to the hair (but no shaved heads, as we didn't want him mistaken for a skinhead,) but no tattoos or the ilk until he was over 18.

He had the facial hair early, too... didn't look much older, just looked his age with a hairy face. Which at 12, is kinda odd in an amusing sort of way ;)

I'll tell you why the parents let their pre-teens dye their hair. They've decided not to sweat the small stuff. Now tatoos, earrings - those are the things to go to war over. ;)

We're sort of sad around here that our little guys from Vista (just north of San Diego) didn't win it all, but they sure had a good run and they did come in 3rd, which is not shabby at all!
