The day before BD left for camp, she developed a cough. She insisted that she felt fine, so I chalked it up to allergies and sent along some Delsym and over the counter allergy meds.
Yesterday she mentioned an incident at camp when she had trouble breathing while playing a game of tag. I thought about calling the doctor, but she still swore she was fine. Optimist that I am, I believed her.
After falling asleep last night while I was still reading to her (something that hasn’t happened in years), she woke up at 6 AM coughing so hard she couldn’t breathe. She eventually fell back asleep and woke up claiming she still felt fine. Too late. I had already made a doctor’s appointment for her.
She has pneumonia. This makes me 0 for 2 this year in pneumonia diagnosing.

Oh man! That is a bummer!!! Hope she licks it quickly… Who’dathunk?
How scary for you! Hope she gets well soon, poor little love!
That’s a no-win situation every time. If you had kept her home, she would have been fine & mad at you. And bored (scary). Don’t be too hard on yourself, Mama! Sending lots of love & hugs for BD and you!!
Hello, Michele sent me!
Awww, poor thing! Pneumonia, while treatable, is NOT fun…for anyone!
One of my principle memories of second grade is watching this kid have pneumonia for what seemed like MONTHS and I remember one time when we were sitting on the floor in the library watching a video and he puked all over the place and just SAT in it! I think I remember this so clearly because he was my arch nemisis and seeing him suffer this embarrassment gave me quite a thrill at the time, but still…
