Yup, I am one proud mama today. But I’m not bragging about my kids this time. No sir, I’m bragging about me.
BDÂ finally decided to spend the last $4.16 she had left on a Target gift certificate she got for Christmas. So off we went to fight our way through the construction at the store.
She browsed through the $1 bins at the front of the store. She browsed through accessories. She browsed through almost every aisle in the toy section. She browsed in the health & beauty section. A few times she asked, “Should I get this or that?” and every time I calmly replied, “You need to decide.”
I never once said, “Hurry up.” I never once said, “No, you can’t get that” (at least, not that I remember). I never once said, “Can’t you make up your mind?” Sometimes I think I’m beginning to get this Mom thing down after all.

I’m still learning, apparently!
Look at you, Mama! I’ll be asking for lessons in a few years, I’m sure…
You did great!! Give yourself a big pat on the back! Speaking about shopping in the health & beauty section, is your DD at the age where she is obsessed with make-up, nail polish, and other cosmetic frou-frous? My DD is 3 years younger than yours, and she is suddenly wanting to use her allowance money to buy all kinds of different make-up…some of which I flat out told her is not age-appropriate, and she must wait until she’s older! So, her latest interest is nail polish and nail stickers (decals). I told her no on the nail polish, but relented on the decals, even though I really, really wanted to say no! I guess I was tired, and didn’t want to get into a protracted battle over this. I told her she could use them during the summertime, but she could not wear them to school. That was my way of trying to gain some control over the situation!
Great for you, i wish i could be that patient…
Congratulations! Looks like you’re well on your way to shaping an independent, thoughtful adult.
