Back to Kindergarten

There’s nothing like the prospect of a 25th college reunion for motivation. I’ve actually started eating better the past couple of weeks, but it’s been months since I’ve gotten any regular exercise. Of course, I’m not going to drop 15 pounds in the 10 days between now and the reunion, but I’d like to be able to walk up “Cardiac Hill” on campus without using that handrail they put in for today’s wimpy students.

But somehow, those aerobic videos in the basement just aren’t inspiring me. What to do? The answer is elementary, my dear readers.

As in elementary school type play. I already have the new bike. Our hula hoop got lost somewhere between here and the neighbors’, so I bought a new one yesterday (lots more fun than crunches.) I did a little jump-roping (jumping rope?) with BD the other day, and a little more today. Oh, don’t give me that look. I know it was very little. How much did you do? Last night our church had a roller skating party for the kids–and this mom skated.

Weather permitting, perhaps I will challenge BD to a couple of games of hopscotch today.

Honestly, rollerskating is one of my very favorite things to do. I will never be too old for it – except if I fall.

What better way to get in shape than to do fun things that you love… :) Do beware of roller skating… ’specially backwards. Always watch where you’re going. My mom took up this favorite hobby/sport/funtime of hers once again when she was round about 55 or so and our hometown opened up a new rink and she was whirling round the rink backwards and hit a wee piece of gum on the floor. Down she went flinging her hands out behind her to stop her fall (knowing full well what a no-no this is!) and broke both of her wrists! Oy. What a time we had at our house for several weeks.

How much did I do? I did an hour of cardio kickboxing combined with power pump dumb bell exercises and body sculpting, and then stayed for the kickboxing bag class that followed immediately, where I beat the crap out of a punching bag for another hour, jumped rope, did sprints, and finished up with more crunches and push ups.

And today, I dont look any different.
