And Down the Stretch They Come!

Mr. B & I went to Churchill Downs the other day, where we made a nice donation to their renovation fund. While watching the horses and the races is fun, you really get your money’s worth there by watching the people. I thought I’d pass along a few comments I didn’t get the chance to make in person.

To the people there at lunchtime with school age children: since I don’t think any schools around here are out yet, I figure you’re homeschoolers. Great idea to do a math field trip to teach the kids about probability and statistics. Perhaps I can convince BD’s school to do one; I’ll even volunteer to chaperone!

To the young lady hanging on the older gentleman’s arm: it’s so nice to see a daughter being so solicitous of her father. But are you aware that your cell phone somehow got stuck in the back of your pants? Luckily they’re very tight so they’re not sliding down. And honey, I wouldn’t wear so much makeup when you’re out with daddy. Save it for your boyfriend.

To the group of young college boys: go ahead and waste your money betting at the track, but don’t waste it on cigarettes. They don’t make you look cool. They make you look stupid. One day they’ll make you look dead.

And finally, to the members of the Red Hat Society that we spied: You ladies rock! Be sure to send me my invitation in three years when I’m finally eligible to join.

I’ve heard some great things about the Red Hat Society! I found out about them last year and checked out their website for more info. You can join before 50, but you wouldn’t be allowed to wear the red outfits, although you would be allowed to wear pink. I’m curious what the average age of members in the club is?

YEY! For the Red Hat Society! My mom is the “Queen Mother” of her chapter and when I’m home she let’s me go out with them (I’m only 24 so I have to wear a pink hat and lavender clothes) See, you don’t have to wait ’til your fifty…get a hold of your local chapter and join in on the fun now. Plus, if your already a member before you turn fifty, they throw you a big “flying up” party and you get switch to you RED hat at the outing. I can’t think of more fun I have ever had then when I go out with those girls…They DO rock! Loved your site…I’ll definately be back! Michele sent me!

I saw the Red Hat Ladies at a mall once, there were so many that they basically took over the whole mall.

I went to the tracks with my dad when I was 6 once. It was a weekend. He let me pick some horses to bet on. Naturally I picked the ones with the prettiest names. I won Show Place and Win. Daddy wouldn’t let me keep the money.
