Not Intended for Outdoor Use

After several days of rain, the last two days have been glorious, with lots of sunshine and temperatures in the 70s. BD has been taking full advantage by playing outside as much as possible.
Yesterday, she suddenly she burst back inside, sobbing hard. Dramatic as she tends to be, I knew something was very wrong, and immediately [...]

Country Springtime

Mr. B & I have a running debate about the lawn. He wants to get a lawn treatment service to get rid of the weeds and the grubs. He thinks killing the grubs will drive away the moles, but I’ve read articles that say otherwise. And while I’m not crazy about dandelions , we do [...]

Traffic Jam

It was back to Milwaukee for Mr. B today. However, as we approached the airport, traffic suddenly stopped dead. We soon realized that we had unintentionally timed our arrival with that of Vice President Dick Cheney, who had flown in for a fundraiser for an Indiana congressman. Thousands of drivers were stranded on the roads [...]

“The Talk”

BD is growing up fast and I knew it was coming soon. Still, I was taken aback last night when Mr. B came downstairs and informed me that he had just had “the talk” with her.
Somehow, as her mother, I had always assumed that I would be the one to handle that particular rite of passage. I [...]

I’m Too Old…

for any more games like this one.Louisville’s going to the Final Four!

Blame Keri

She’s the one who put me up to this after she made this post. MommaK also posted a classic.
Trust me, it’s not that I’m too cool to avoid the latest “Glamour Don’t.” It’s just that I’m a very boring dresser. I tend toward jeans & sweats, and they don’t look all that out of [...]

Random Friday Thoughts

I had something else planned for today, but it can wait another day. Meantime, some random thoughts on what’s not been the week I had planned.
I said earlier that Mr. B is a great patient when he’s sick, but this pneumonia has made him a little bit cranky. I hope he’s feeling better soon, for my sake [...]

Drawing Straws

I find going to church and celebrating communion on Maundy Thursday to be a very special occasion. However, BD is home with a sore throat, so someone has to miss church tonight to stay home with her.
Ordinarily, we’d be drawing straws and the short one would have to stay home.
Ordinarily, the University of Louisville isn’t playing [...]

On Second Thought…

HS got home safely yesterday. We’ve been having a lovely visit so far. As usual, he stayed up way later than the rest of the family. I’d attribute it to the fact that he’s usually on central time, but it’s really because he’s 19.
However, I woke up to this today.

Perhaps I spoke too soon.

Counting the Hours

Till our boy gets home this evening, that is. We’ve seen him for a grand total of one brief weekend this entire semester. I know that’s a good thing, because it means he’s settled in at school. Well, that and the price of gas has gotten so high that he can’t afford [...]
