Miscellaneous Monday Musings

First Dick Clark has a stroke, then Johnny Carson dies. We baby boomers who grew up on them are face-to-face with our own mortality.

My husband is jumping for joy now that his Eagles have finally earned a spot in the Super Bowl. I refrain from reminding him of how many times my Bills made it in the 90s–and what the outcome was.

In the interest of equal time, Baby Brother is thrilled that the Patriots are back in the Super Bowl. Enough already with New England–they’ve already won their share. Find your own links.

Baby Sister (aka Ian’s mom), said this in an email this morning:

typing one-handed and holding fussy baby before leaving said baby with hubby while going to work on four hours sleep. never been happier. seriously. is this a permanent condition of delusion?

To which I replied:

In some ways, the condition is permanent, but there will be moments when it briefly disappears to be replaced by a wish that you’d decided to raise goldfish instead of children. Those moments, fortunately, don’t last.

How true, Cat. Goldfish don’t give kisses and hugs. Or help clean the house.

What a wise answer for your sister Cat! Children ARE much better than goldfish (or beta’s, never remember thinking I’d wish my kids would hurry up and die!), although there are times you’re sure they will drive you insane. I am SO glad that Ian is home and doing well.

I’m sorry, Cat. I realize I’m going waaaaaaay back on your page to leave my first comment for you, but I had to laugh at myself when I read this one… Shows what a great football fan I am when the Packers aren’t playing. I start reading this and I’m nodding my head sagely while reading the bits about Dick and Johnny and facing our mortality… Then I hit the first line about the Eagles playing at the Super Bowl and I think to myself, “Wow! That’s really cool! I may have to go over to my parents (we don’t have tv here) and actually watch the halftime show this year with a great band like the Eagles playing…” heh. Then I continued on and realized you were talking about the team. LOL! I’m really feeling out of it with the approach of the game.

But now that I think about it, isn’t Mr. McCartney playing the halftime show? That maybe IS worth heading over for… The folks are in Florida. There won’t actually be anyone there watching the real game shoving the sports thing down our throats. :) heh…

Okay. Toodling off now. Really glad you stopped over at 500miles2nowhere. Hope you’ll be back!
