Olympic Thoughts

We only get two of the many NBC-related channels carrying the Olympics–NBC itself and Bravo. One result is that as I check Bravo for Olympic programming during the day, I’ve ended up watching way too many episodes of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.” (Interesting factoid: Carson Kressley, the blond fashion guy, graduated from the same college as Mr. B–though Mr. B graduated when Carson was about 5). Yesterday on Bravo I happened upon an unusual Olympic event: the Modern Pentathlon. They were riding horses, so I assumed it was another equestrian event (they carried a lot of those on Bravo). But no–the show jumping was event #4, and #5 was a cross country run. A little research showed that the first three events (even I knew that a “pentathlon” must have 5 events) included shooting, fencing and swimming! These athletes get my vote as the most well-rounded (and possibly the craziest) in the Olympics.
