I Miss Her Already

I just took Big Sis to the airport. Sigh. It was a great visit (except for the menfolk she left behind getting into a fight and then calling (separately) to dump on her. We laughed and shopped and ate and walked…and of course played many games of Boggle. Now it’s time to take Mr. B to [...]

Shop Till You Drop

My sister arrived safely yesterday. This morning we went to the zoo and got to look at the animals we wanted to see without a child pestering us to hurry up and get to the (fill-in-the-blank-with-your-child’s-favorite-animal). Saw the tiger cubs and the warthog babies (the warthogs were actually more interesting, although the tiger cubs were [...]

Out to Lunch

I had offered to take HS out to dinner last night, but he deferred me till lunch today. I helped out at music camp this morning, and was amazed to find him up and already showered when I got home just after noon. So off we went to Chili’s, where we had a pleasant lunch. Then [...]

P & Q

Last week was wild and crazy, which is why I had no time to post. BD’s into full swing with swim team, HS started both his jobs, and we were getting busy to work on a Chrysalis weekend, a three-day weekend for Christian youth. Mr. B, HS and I were all on the team, so BD got [...]

My Son, The Banker

Who’d have thunk it? HS got a message Friday from a friend of ours who is president of a local savings & loan, offering him a part-time teller position for the summer. He starts tomorrow. It’ll be a contrast to his other part-time job renting bicycles down by the riverfront. He worked 8 hours there today [...]

TGIF

I’ve stayed up too late pretty much every night this week, then been up (relatively) early. Yesterday I actually drank a cup of coffee with caffeine in it–I must be desperate!
Mr. B got home Wednesday night and we’ve both been so busy we’ve barely crossed paths. Could be worse–he hasn’t even seen BD yet! He got [...]

Happy Belated Mothers Day

School’s out for summer, and in cleaning out her desk, BD found the Mother’s Day card she had made for me. The teacher gave each student two coupons to fill out. BD’s aren’t exactly what you might call heartwarming. Make sure you check out the fine print on the second one. I can’t wait to see [...]

Mixed feelings

Tomorrow’s the last day of school for BD. I won’t have to get up at 6:40 AM for awhile. That’s good. I’ll have to guard the TV and the refrigerator. That’s not so good. Swim practices won’t be at dinnertime any more. That’s good. I’ll have to referee the kids. That’s not so good. I [...]

Wait Till Next Year….

I had really hoped Smarty Jones would pull it off, and thought he could after watching that great finish in the Preakness. Alas, it was not to be. It’s still amazing to think there were THREE Triple Crown winners in the 70s. It seemed too easy back then!

In the “Guess You Had to Be There” Department

HS called me today on his cell phone. He had 15 minutes before an interview at Dick’s Sporting Goods. They had told him to wear a tie, and he completely blanked out on how to tie one (can you tell it’s a rare occurrence?). So there I am, trying to describe the process over the phone. [...]
