Yes, folks, it’s that unofficial Louisville holiday, Oaks Day. For those of you from out of town, the Kentucky Oaks is a race for 3 year old fillies run the day before the race which shuts down almost the entire city. Over 100,000 show up at the track for the Oaks. We used to go when it was “only” 80,000 or so and you could actually throw a Frisbee in the infield (if you were so inclined–it resembles exercise, so I abstained). Besides which, back then they charged you six bucks to get into the infield then–now it’s $25. Derby Day was $15 when we first went in the early 90’s; now it’s $40. Add that to what I usually lose on my bets, and it’s a pretty expensive day!

For those unfamiliar with Kentucky phrases, a "holler" is a small valley between mountains.
I'm not really yelling at you.
