I’ve been thinking of that title for a few months, ever since I was asked to serve on a team for a prison ministry weekend. So last Friday (on my birthday), I showed up with 30 or so other team members at a local women’s prison. The team members slept at a hotel, but we spent the rest of the weekend with the inmates. Another woman and I led a table of 6 inmates as we listened to 13 talks related to living a Christian life. Sang lots of great songs, laughed, cried, and ate. Two “brunches” in the dining hall (one was nasty, one not bad), a nice catered meal one afternoon in the chapel (apparently one of the main reasons some of the inmates sign up) and pizza the last day for lunch. I was glad that by the end of the weekend my tablemates were saying that the food was not the BEST part of the weekend! They all felt encouraged and stronger.
I was really touched by these women. They’ve had a rough time and made some bad decisions, but they have a heart for God. We can just hope that the weekend gave them some tools to stay on the path, or at least get right back on when they slip off. God certainly knows that I wander away at times! He was certainly at work this weekend. GOD IS GOOD!!
